Features

One window for every conversion.

Working with different model formats is a hassle when you build or edit Trainz assets. Mesh2Trainz puts the conversion tools in one place, with a log that shows what is happening.

  • Browse for files. No typing file paths.
  • Original IM reference, optional. Pick an existing IM to reuse its materials and attachment points. Leave it empty and the app builds default materials instead.
  • Live log. Progress, messages and errors appear in the app, like in Command Prompt.
  • Learns new TrainzMesh formats. If a file stores its vertices in a layout the app hasn’t seen, it works the layout out from the model and remembers it.
  • Learned formats list. Forget a format, adjust texture scaling, or export and import what the app has learned.
  • V-flip option. Adjust texture coordinates while converting.
  • Overwrite protection. Helps stop you replacing your originals.
  • Open output folder. One click to your converted model.
Supported conversions

Pick a direction, press Convert.

  • OBJ→IM
  • IM→OBJ
  • OBJ→TrainzMesh
  • TrainzMesh→OBJ
  1. Open Mesh2Trainz.
  2. Browse for the file you want to convert.
  3. Add the original IM (or a template TrainzMesh) if you have one. It’s optional.
  4. Choose where to save the output file.
  5. Press Convert and watch the log for progress or errors.
  6. Open the output folder to find your converted model.

If a TrainzMesh file uses a vertex format the app hasn’t met, the log says so, shows the layout it worked out, and carries on converting. Check the first result in your 3D viewer.

Get Mesh2Trainz

Mesh2Trainz took a lot of work to build. The .trainzmesh format used by Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 and later isn’t documented, so I worked out how it’s built before I could convert it. That’s why it’s payware.

To pay ($5.99), send it by PayPal through paypal.me/ThuDao173 or to [email protected]. Then message me on Discord (@sillyfurryx3, or join our server), Facebook or by email to say you’ve paid, and I’ll send you an access code. Sign in with Google and enter it in the Download tab of your account. I don’t give the app first and take payment later.

Only need IM and OBJ? It’s free.

Mesh2Trainz Free is the older version 1.0. It converts between OBJ and IM, with no payment and no code. TrainzMesh conversions are only in the full version.

FAQ

Good to know.

Why isn’t it free?

Mesh2Trainz took a lot of work to build. The .trainzmesh format used by Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019 and later isn’t documented, so I worked out how it’s built before I could convert it. That’s why it’s payware.

How do I pay?

Sign in with Google and click Buy now. Send the payment by PayPal with the reference shown, and your access code appears in your account when it arrives. Or pay to paypal.me/ThuDao173 or [email protected] and message me on Discord, Facebook or email: I send you an access code to enter in the Download tab. I don’t give the app first and take payment later.

Why do I have to sign in with Google?

Your access code and license key are saved to your account, so they are still there after a refresh or on another device, and a code that leaks is useless to anyone else. I only receive your name and email address from Google, never your password.

I bought a new computer. Can I move my license?

Message me. I reset your license, then you enter the Machine ID of the new PC in the DRM key tab of your account and get a new key.

How many times can I download it?

Each access code works for 3 downloads, only for the account that owns it. When they’re used up, you’ll need a new code.

Is there a free version?

Yes. Version 1.0 is free and converts between OBJ and IM. TrainzMesh conversions are only in the paid version.

Do I need to install Python?

No. Mesh2Trainz is a standalone Windows .exe.

What if my TrainzMesh file isn’t recognised?

TrainzMesh files can store their vertex data in different layouts. When the app doesn’t know one, it works the layout out from the model itself: it finds the positions, normals and texture coordinates, then converts. The log shows what it found, and the layout is remembered, so the next file like it opens straight away. Please check the first result in your 3D viewer. If something looks wrong, open Learned formats, forget that format and message me the file.

Can I share what the app has learned?

Yes. In Learned formats, use Export to save what the app has learned and Import to load a file someone sent you. Imported entries are checked before they’re used. If textures look stretched on a model with packed texture coordinates, the same window has a UV scale setting.

Windows says the publisher is unknown.

The app isn’t code-signed. Compare the SHA-256 shown on the download card with your downloaded file to check it hasn’t changed.
